We had originally thought that these were collar studs but are delighted to have received the following information from a retired nurse.
"I just thought I would mention they are not actually collar studs but are cuff studs. A lot of the Long sleeve nurses uniforms would have detachable cuffs which were frequently removed and often changed and attached via a pair of studs; the unusual mechanism you mentioned would be for quick changes of them using only one hand."
I did my nurse training in 1970s and well remember these items on some of the more mature seniors nurses uniforms who refused to move forward with more modern uniforms."
Box of 4 individual studs, so two pairs
Made in England. These are original vintage items.

We are very excited to have acquired a number of these original unused watch chains, which work brilliantly with our waistcoats.
They were manufactured by Jakob Bengel, a chain and costume jewellery factory, founded by Jakob Bengel in 1873 in Germany.
Until 1920, the company specialised in the production of watch chains and chatelaines (pendants for pocket watches). In the 1920's and 1930's, it became one of the leading manufactures of fashion jewellery in the Art Deco style.
It was during the Bauhaus and Art Deco period that designers were looking to obtain new materials and inspiration to produce costume jewellery. Inspired by French Avant-Garde and other fashion trendsetters such as Coco Chanel, Bengel started to produce experimental jewellery. The pieces, catalogued from 1924-1939, combined brass and chrome with geometric shapes of coloured galalith.
The watch chains themselves are therefore probably brass or chrome, but being vintage we cannot say this with any certainty. Please note these watch chains come in variations and may have marks or scuffs as they are vintage originals.
Total length approximately 25cm or 10in.
With the exception of colour 21, which is 46cm or 18in in length.
